WELCOME!Electronics Recycling The new Electronics Recycling and Reuse Law went into effect on January 1st. Now consumers and companies may no longer throw old computers, monitors, televisions, and other e-waste in the trash, and items cannot be left at the curb. The law prohibits disposal in municipal waste and sanitary landfills.
Habitat for Humanity of Illinois has set up permanent collection sites at Habitat ReStores (home improvement stores) throughout Illinois. The closest location is at the Aurora Habitat ReStore at Fox Valley Mall on New York Street, just west of Route 59. The 8 Illinois sites collected over 655,000 pounds of electronics in late 2011!!
All materials are recycled by Vintage Tech Recyclers, a certified R2 recycler, whose data destruction technology exceeds the Department of Defense and NIST standards. All hard drives are wiped clean and shredded. Many electronic items contain materials that can be repurposed. For every pound of e-waste that is collected, Vintage Tech Recyclers donates money that helps build Habitat for Humanity homes. Electronics recycling diverts thousands of pounds of useable materials from landfills, while raising money to build affordable housing in partnership with low-income families throughout Illinois.
Items accepted include: PC’s, laptops, monitors, printers, scanners, copiers, fax machines, keyboards, servers, networking equipment, zip drives, modems, battery back-ups, cables, mice, video game consoles, televisions, cell phones, IPods’s, DVD’s, VCR’s, stereos, MP3 players, radios, telephones, pagers, camcorders, cameras, calculators, answering machines, fans, microwaves, toasters, blenders, adding machines, reel-to-reel tape recorders, and typewriters.
Trash Bags Let’s work together to prevent unwanted animals from invading our neighborhood. If we offer them a food source, they will locate here, and we will never get rid of them. Coyotes and raccoons have already been sited here! Our townhouse declarations state that garbage is to be placed in trash receptacles. Please tie up your trash bags securely so that food, cigarette butts, etc. cannot fall out and then place those bags in your garbage cans. Notices about this issue have been included in recent newsletters, and reminder notices have been posted at a number of addresses. The Homeowners Association is assessing fines for repeat violators who are using only trash bags. It’s not our goal to fine residents. Instead, we ask that everyone go back to using garbage cans, as they once did, and keep the curb areas clean. We all want a safe, attractive neighborhood for residents’ enjoyment and safety and retained property values. Thank you for your cooperation!
Next Board MeetingBoard Meetings are usually held on the fourth Tuesday of each even month. The next one is scheduled for Tuesday, June 19th at 7:00 p.m. at Allied First Bank on Orchard Road. All Blackberry Knoll residents are welcome to attend.
